Icelandic lamb to the White House 25. júlí 2006 11:15 Icelandic lamb seems to have been a raving success at the White House following President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson's recent visit when he had dinner with President Bush for the Special Olympics. Grímsson presented Bush with Icelandic salmon, lamb, skyr, cheeses, butter and chocolate. Head White House chef Cristeta Comerford was impressed with the Icelandic ingredients and has asked to meet Baldvin Jónsson, director of Áform, which exports Icelandic lamb. The White House chefs prefer to shop at the Whole Foods Market which sells Icelandic lamb, dairy products and fresh fish. Walter Scheib, ex-chef at the White House now works for the chain and has been busy introducing Icelandic skyr and smjör to the American public. " I am going to discuss the possibility of the White House offering Icelandic ingredients to its guests," says Jónsson. " President Bush and his wife Laura are excited about this possibility, as Icelandic lamb is totally organic and Laura is concerned about what the President eats." Jónsson adds that in October an extensive promotional fair of Icelandic foods will take place in Washington.
