DVD's Only

Video rental stores have made the decision not to purchase new VHS tapes to rent out; rather, a gradual crossover is being made to rent out DVDs exclusively.

Stefán Unnarsson, managing director of Myndmarks, an association of movie rental agents, told Visir, "That's progress. 90% of movie rentals now are for DVDs. We tried to stall this change as long as possible."

The official magazine of Myndmarks, "Myndbönd mánaðarins" (videos of the month) to "Myndir mánaðarins" (movies of the month).

Arthur Moon of the appliance and electronics store Bræður Ormsson, estimates that some 80% of Icelandic homes have a DVD player.
